Recently, the Samsung Galaxy Note7 has made the news due to reports of its battery overheating and causing injury and property damage. Because of this, Samsung has announced a voluntary recall and exchange program on devices that were sold in the U.S. before September 15, 2016.

The phone’s issue lies in their lithium ion battery packs, which contain a liquid that is highly flammable and has been the culprit in recent incidents.

Exchanging Your Phone

If you already purchased a Galaxy Note7, stop using your device, power it down and immediately exchange it or return it to your local retailer. You will need to have your 15-digit IMEI (or serial) number ready to verify that your device is eligible.

If eligible, certain carriers will also give you a $25 gift card for your trouble. This only applies to phones that were purchased before September 15.

What Samsung Is Doing

Fortunately for its customers, Samsung is taking this matter very seriously. In addition to announcing the recall publicly, all eligible phones will receive a notification anytime the phone is plugged in to charge that informs the user to immediately power down their phone and return it.

In addition to replacing your phone, Samsung will also issue you a Galaxy J-series loaner phone while you wait for your new Note7. This means that even though you may have to wait for your new Galaxy Note7, you will be able to connect with clients and employees. The Galaxy J may not be the same caliber as the Note7, but it’s still a smartphone and capable of doing most of the necessary functions you may need in order to keep your business running smoothly.

But you don’t have to wait to get a replacement if you decide not to stick with the Galaxy Note7. Samsung will issue you a full refund if you decide to go a different route. Retailers that have confirmed that they will participate in the exchange program include AT&T, Sprint, T-Mobile and Verizon.
