Child abuse prevention was brought to the forefront at The Thread Alliance’s Blue Plate Special Kickoff Party on Thursday, March 31, 2016. The Thread Alliance and Founder Sheila Aron welcomed more than 100 attendees at The Tasting Room – Uptown Park to spread the thread of love and take action against child abuse. Guests were inspired to join the 4th Annual Blue Plate Special, a month-long and citywide fundraiser campaign for child abuse prevention during the month of April 2016, where participating restaurants are featuring an exclusive “blue plate special” dish and its proceeds benefit The Thread Alliance.
Guests enjoyed tasty lite bites and wine while they swooned over the display of “I’m Glad I’m Me, Weaving the Thread of Love from Generation to Generation,” a book by Sheila Aron and her BabyLovies, a baby blanket weaved with the thread of love by local women that are donated to child abuse non-profits in Houston.
Aron expressed her appreciation of the participating restaurants and excitement for the 4th Annual Blue Plate Special and its efforts to prevent child abuse. Guests were eager to join the campaign and excited for raffle drawings that included gift cards from Del Frisco’s Grille, Ouisie’s Table, Benjy’s as well as two tickets to Keels & Wheels Concours d’Elegance and the Kemah Crawfish Festival.
The Thread Alliance is dedicated to ending the cycle of child abuse. The Blue Plate Special is The Thread Alliance’s citywide public awareness and education campaign encouraging Houstonians to take action against child abuse and toward healing. Local restaurants support the cause by offering a “blue plate Special” during the month of April, Child Abuse Prevention Month, and donating a flat dollar amount or percentage of the proceeds to The Thread Alliance.
