Being Great Role Models To Our Children

[ad_1]

As a parent one of your main jobs is to set a great example for your children. Being a great role model is not always easy as it can make you make tough decisions. The tough decision to make is usually the right one and that is what makes it so tough. There are a myriad of areas where you can influence your children as well as situations where your child needs a friend rather than a role model. The way that we react to certain stimuli will be modeled by the children. This is the reason families often times share the same fears or reaction to a certain event. The following are ways that we as mothers can be great role models to our children.

Healthy Living

The living of a healthy life is a model that your child might keep with them for life. Stressing the importance of healthy living is not always enough as you might have to teach your child about the intricacies of eating healthy or working out in a healthy way. Another place to be a great example is that of keeping up with your doctor’s and dental appointments. Children model behavior after parents so if you throw a tantrum each time you go to the dentist then this is exactly what your child will do.

Working Hard

One of the best things that a parent can instill in a young child is the importance of hard work and being proud of what you have done. Not all mothers will be high powered attorneys but your child will still look at the way you approach work and model this after you. If you constantly are pushing back deadlines then how can you be upset if your child missed a homework deadline as it is essentially the same thing. Being prompt is a lesson that you need to teach your child as this is important in their social relationships as well as professional relationships. Those who are always late are often viewed as disrespecting the time of others or thinking their time is more important than everyone else’s.

The Way You Treat Others

Children are going to model themselves after you especially when they are interacting with others. If you are a bully to most of the people you meet or walk all over those who have less power than you do then you are in for some trouble. Your child now thinks this behavior is acceptable which can lead to trouble in school. While bullying has no excuse, bullies are often made an example out of with extreme punishments and blame for all problems to do with school when part of the blame is on other children as well as school administration. Treat people with respect no matter what they are doing and this is a lesson your child is sure to pick up on.

Be the example for your kids that you have always dreamt of. Your kids look up to you so do not make them disappointed in your actions!
